On a Wind and a Prayer
Forecasting Windy Conditions
Love it! The footage is captivating. Not only the waterspout, but how well you capture the water, sand and island.
You guys are legends! Thank you for all your fascinating videos. We ran into you guys in Lanzarote in 2018, When you arrive to the West side of Puerto Rico we would love to buy you guys a well deserved beer after the Mona passage. 🍺🇵🇷⛵️
Excellent video! Have a good trip.
The best video of a storm that was recorded closely. It's terrible if until the storm is enlarged.
Wow, scary shugar 🙂
Orion looking splendid… #thesmalldetails x
I remember the post of the waterspout when you posted it on Instagram. It was even more impressive as a YT video plus to see the additional footage and hear from the people that got hit by it. Great video and tips Paul & Cheryl. Thanks for sharing!
What a way to live. I always loved storms on the water.😁
Thank you for posting. I always love your videos!
Wow it reminded me of the wizard of oz. Great video as always. You 2 are very calming.
always a tidbit of education. thanks for this one always great. hope you are safe!
I’ve watched your TV show for years. I love your YouTube videos Thank you for sharing
Unbelievable!! So glad all are safe! I love your videos and have learned so much in addition to seeing some incredible places! Thanks for also sharing the realities of cruising and not just palm trees, sunshine and piña coladas like most channels do😊
Wow! That must've scared the heck out of you guys seeing that waterspout in the distance. It was close enough that if it went the other direction it could have trapped your vessel as well. It's probably so fast you wouldn't have time to raise the anchor and move out of the way. Thank God nobody was hurt.
Ive seen water spouts but thank god not up close.
You look great Cheryl! You lost weight. Love your video!
Wonderful video! I once saw the land version of a water spout – a dust devil. It was in a large farmer's field in Kansas. It went up about 300-500 feet and about 80 feet wide at the bottom. It was a sunny day. Otherwise I would have thought it was a small tornado! I'm sure glad that no one was hurt connected with this water spout. Smooth sailing to you. Scott W
I am so glad that everyone is ok especially Zinzi and Distant Shores both off you guys are a beautiful couple. I love your videos and have learned so much The footage is captivating
OH my!! So glad everyone was OK & thanks for another dreamy beachy video!
You do such great videos!
At 4:40, I like the statement about what a gorgeous world we live in. I hope we remember that moment always as we look at this tragedy unfolding all around us.
Wuaoooo!!! really lucky
When are you going to sail in the Pacific?
Always the highest quality video, sound, narration and music from Distant Shores. Great entertainment. Thank you!!
Thanks for the great video. Love to learn from your experience, especially the anchoring tips. We often see rotating wind masses here in the desert of Saudi Arabia where we refer to them as 'dust devils', although we've seen none are as large as the waterspout in this video. Stay safe and well and please let us know how you are getting on in these worrisome times!
P&S…thinking about you two over in the UK…hope all's well & you're safe.
A word of warning: the water spout likely didn't break up as it went over the islands, it just wasn't as obvious because it wasn't filled with water or soft soil. I whitenessed a water spout from the air in the north west territories a few years back: it would hit a lake and you could see it, then it would hit Canadian shield and become invisible, then hit a lake and 'rematerialize'. You can't get complacent and think it has broken up just because you can't see it. Glad you are ok.
Hi Guys, at 4.41 is that Orion in the night sky. I didn’t think you could see it there as I am in Melbourne Australia. Also in one of your video about anchors , you put out two of then ,one on Port side and one on STB side, would that be the best solution to overcome the 45 knots you received ?
Thanks for another great video. Your footage of the waterspout was amazing. I haven’t thought of chicken tetrazzini in over 30 years and that made me smile. Maybe I should make that tonight. We could use a comfort food right about now. Stay safe.

I remember driving through the FL Keys at 3am with full moon illuminating the cumulous clouds casting shadows on the glimmering water, twinkling stars and warm air that hugs you. Heaven on Earth
1:20 program ?
Great job guys…
Great video. Also loved seeing my brother Ian and his wife Margaret!
We saw a waterspout off the East coast of Cozumel few years ago. Captivating, but luckily, a mile or so away. 🌪
Great episode! The camera work is amazing! Glory to Almighty God for this wonderful Earth we live on! The World is full of Sin but the Earth is beautiful!
Hi,seen a few tall water spouts near Kalbarri and Jurien off shore a few kms and they look risky.By the way if you get pneumonia from my experience with campo bacteria while travelling take doctor advice, but as my team of doctors looked fatefully at a 95 % congested lung x ray, asking if i smoked,no,the only way i got past was to sit upright, sleep upright and go to the toilet which most do not. Then in privacy i did a little jump dance for 50 seconds every day for a week or so which i credit highly.Shallow dive breathing also helped so i reckon you'll be fine mate with you know what which is around maybe.Thought i'd mention it as i noticed in Italy most where laying near on flat.Best of Luck guys.
Great vid ya'll.
Great video! Wow, that waterspout! Beautiful beaches and pristine waters! Thanks for sharing.
I know this question answers itself, but do you find because of your shallow draft, you can anchor in places that most others don’t? Even Catamarans
I always learn something from watching your productions. Thank you for "setting-the-bar" so high and sharing your exciting world/life. I always look forward to receiving the notification of your next post. While I am currently not in a position to engage in this lifestyle, you all are living my dream and from your videos, I feel I am getting a bit closer to that reality everyday. Level Vibes as always. Thanks
We are in the process of revising our ground tackle for a circumnavigation, would like to be able to see (from up close) what you are using as snubber (snubber to chain hookup, lenght) and mooring lines. Wanted to tell you guys you were an inspiration for us, keep up the good videos 🇨🇦
No sugar coating in this video! Well done and shared! We had an incident last summer near Kingston, ON where the wind was so strong, we dragged anchor even while powering forward with our diesel! A couple more minutes of high winds and we would have been aground. We have enormous respect for Mother Nature after that incident. We limped over to Prynyer's Cove basking in the extreme calm and serenity of that anchorage. G&T to celebrate too!
My buddy runs a charter fishing boat out of Wanchese N.C. While heading out one morning we ran through a water spout about this size for fun. He has an old 36ft Hatteras Sportfish so its a heavy boat and we hit it cruising about 20knts. The boat handled it fine, but the outriggers were flexing pretty good. It felt like riding a motorcycle in the ran, the water stung a bit, but all in all it was a fun experience.
I think you have a great Boat, no questions…. But, have you ever considered the Catamaran option? Yes/why not? Cheers
Hope you all are safe from this virus.Be safe & God bless us all,Chris from Missouri
Your videos are technical, and that may bother some but, your videography is the best of all the boating vlogs. Good job.
Scary man, scary.. cool all's good..
That scene at 3:21 is perhaps where most wish they were right now. Thanks very much for sharing it all and safe travels.
Guys, I just subscrided during you video! Great footage and you know what your talking about. I especially liked mentioning the anchor locker… it is often forgotten and people secure only the snubber line. We always secure the snubber line and the chain, so if the snubber fails their is also the chain secured… quite shockingly I saw many sailors not securing the chain…
In the pre front night shots, how is the anchor line offset from the bow? surely the wind current would keep your downwind of the anchor??
Do you guys know what make/model of yacht the one caught in the spout was? What a beautiful trawler!
That was great thanks for sharing, Cheers from 🇺🇾☘️👍
