You’re traveling through another dimension. A second dimension where the difference between a snowflake and a raindrop can be clearly seen. You’re moving into a land of both vertical and horizontal of things in the atmosphere. You’ve just crossed over to… Welcome back, everyone. I’m Cat Taylor. Now you might be wondering What is dual polarization? Well, allow me to explain. You’ve probably seen them around. You know, the tower with a white dome. It kind of looks like a giant golf ball. Well, many of those house Doppler radars. About twenty years ago, towers were strategically placed across the country giving forecasters a better view of the weather. Since then, the radars have been continually improved. But now, it’s major upgrade time and that’s big news for forecasters and for you. To help explain, we’ve put together a couple videos that spoof our favorite commercials. Enjoy. Honey, it’s really coming down heavy. I wonder if it’s going to flood again. When my husband asked about flooding, I knew who I could talk to. The National Weather Service told me about dual polarization technology. Conventional radar can detect the rain. Dual Pol gives us more. More information about size, shape, and variety of particles in the air. By sending and receiving both horizontal and vertical pulses, we’ll get a better idea of how much rain is actually falling which will – in turn – improve flood forecasts. Other effects of Dual Pol may include better severe thunderstorms warnings and improved transportation safety. If you experience rain lasting more than four hours, check for local warnings in your area. We know we’ll be ready if the floods come. And that’s a good feeling. Attention, forecasters! Is your weather radar picking up more than just the storm? When birds, bugs, and bats show up of your screen, all that clutter can be a huge bummer. I just want to see the weather. Well, now you can… introducing Clutter Cleaner. Powered by dual polarization technology, Clutter Cleaner works fast and efficient to remove biological matter leaving you with a clean screen showing just the weather. Wow! It’s beautiful! But wait, there’s more! This revolutionary technology is also great for seeing flying debris in a tornado. That would come in handy for those night-time twisters! But wait – won’t we need to replace our radar? No way! With a simple upgrade, you’ll be using Clutter Cleaner in no time! Clutter Cleaner: Keeping your screen clean so just the weather is seen! That’s pretty awesome. Well, we’re out of time but it’s not so bad. You can get all the details on this new technology at our website. Plus, don’t forget you can keep up with us on Facebook and Twitter. Until next time, I’m Cat Taylor, thanks for watching That Weather Show.
