Using properties of Hoberman’s sphere, concerning offset linkages, We have built a scissor lift that can lift our robot up into the air and down. Using these three Lego models, the first one being a scissor lift with centered axes, the second one with all offset axes, And the third one with half offset axes, We can demonstrate that the first one extends straight, the second one curves throughout, and the last one extends half way and curves the other half. We used the last design for the front lifting mechanism on our robot As you can see in the scissor lift, it curves down immediately and extends straight. It provides fast lifting capabilities without draining the batteries. To provide speed and less battery usage, the rack and pinion system is used to move the scissor. We facilitated this innovative design at the Oklahoma state championships in an attempt to gain the extra points in the end. This design, incorporating the properties of Hoberman’s sphere, is very feasible and innovative in obtaining the goal in earning extra points in an efficient manner.
